Modafinil or otherwise called Provigil is a medication that is used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness and narcolepsy. The medication is one of the few that are mass produced that does not contain any addictive traits to it. The nice part about Provigil is that patients can be on this medication for months and have nothing but good results and a great night sleep.
Provigil may be accompanied by some unintended side effects. These may include insomnia, agitation, anxiety, aggressiveness, confusion, tremor, sleep disturbance, nausea, and diarrhea. Most patients will not experience these side effects but those who do will usually find that they are self limiting and will dissipate on their own before the symptoms are bothersome enough to discontinue the medication.
Provigil may also be used to treat the symptoms of Multiple sclerosis. Additionally, doctors will prescribe Provigil for the treatment of spastic cerebral palsy, Parkinsonís disease, opiod induced sleepiness, myotonic dystrophy, chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as fibromyalgia. Different uses for Provigil keep popping up the longer the drug is on the market.
